Question:
My son is about 5' 8" 140 lbs. He needs new skis. I found a pair of salomon 1080 foils 158cm on craig's list. That's up to his nose but I wonder if sizing is different for twin tips.He is 14a very good skier has been to Colorado and SLC resorts and can go anywhere on the mountain. Is the size OK for him?
Answer:
Hey, thanks for checking out the site, I think we can help. That size would work this season, but at 14 and being a little ripper, you probably could go a bit bigger. They'll last a bit longer (that's good for your pocket book) and they'll help him learn to ski the ski instead of getting lazy in his form. I'd look for something between a 165-172cm. Twin tips always ski smaller than they really are due to the raised tail. None of that part of the ski is in contact with the snow so it really doesn't do anything for you.
Hopefully that will help a bit. Let us know if you have any more questions, after all, that's what we're here for. Be sure to check back often because we're going to be having a lot going on this winter, we're just barely getting started.
