Burton's 2013 Freebird Jacket and Bib

Freebird: A State of Mind

Burton AK 3L Freebird Jacket and PantBurton wants you to get lost. But in a good way: lost from the work, worries and woes that get in the way of spending time in the mountains. Introducing, everything Freebird.

You can check out our Burton’s Family Tree article for the lowdown on the technology behind the Freebird splitboard, but if you've spent any time in the backcountry you know having the right mode of transportation is not the only piece of the puzzle. Staying dry and warm is just as important if not more and is where Burton has once again hit the nail on the head.  The AK line of outerwear is Burton’s answer to whatever the environment will throw at you and for the 2012-2013 season Burton has introduced the ak Freebird Jacket and Bib Pants.

The Freebird Jacket is made to withstand everything and anything with its three-layer, Gore-tex Pro Ripstop construction. Fully "tiny taped" seams, skin-stowing sized chest pockets, engineered articulation with ak fit, a hood, and a lifetime warranty are plenty of reasons why this should be on your pack list before heading out. Add in the ultra-packable BK insulator jacket with 550 goose-down fill or the Helium Insulator Vest with Primaloft insulation for the ultimate two layers of warmth, protection and function.

Sure your core is important to keep dry and warm, but your lower half is doing most of the work trudging through the snow and needs to be taken care of. The three-layer Freebird Bib Pant also features fully taped seams and Gore-tex Pro Ripstop as well as the utilitarian design of a bib pants system. When you're digging in snow pits, hollowing out a snow cave or riding that bottomless pow, bibs are nice. An ak fit with engineered articulation and padded, adjustable suspenders will make you forget you’ve been wearing them for three straight days.

Get to that state of mind some of us are after; ditch the crowds and make your own path, just do it wisely and be prepared. Let Burton help you get there if you need.
