Tried and True Review: Vans BFB Snowboard Boot

Ahhh, new gear, does it get much better? Yep, having that gear perform well for years and maybe still looking decent too. The Tried & True Review highlights those awesome pieces of gear we have used, some for many years, while suggesting new gear from the same manufacturer based on our observations that will get you through a few more seasons.

Vans BFB Snowboard Boot

'07 Vans BFB snowboarding boots

I bought these boots on a suggestion from a buddy who loved his and, well, they are the one piece of snowboarding gear I have yet to update, truly the best f'n boot. 50 days a year on resort, two-week long splitboard excursions, crampon clad steep spring ascents; the BFB can do it all and in stylish comfort to boot (no pun intended). Traditional laces have ensured worry free operation while removable liners allowed me to keep my feet dry, warm, and comfortable during long expeditions. With nearly constant use for at least four months a year you would think they would be thrashed by now, right? Hardly. While clearly not new anymore, there is no wear that would cause any performance issues or allow my feet to become uncomfortable.

So what is next? The boot in my sights is the Andreas Wiig from Vans. A traditional lace system improved with rubber stoppers in each lace hook ensures tightening efforts are noticed. The flex control system allows you to custom tune the boot to your liking, from mid-stiff to stiff. Maximizing comfort with the pleasure cuff allows different calf sizes to remain in contact with the boot. Wrapping all these features into one boot gives me confidence that not only will it live up to every performance and comfort demand, but it will do it for many seasons to come.
