I really hate to admit it, but my iPhone goes with me everywhere. Not because I have a hard time disconnecting from our overly connected world, but because it is also a freaking camera and all-in-one information center. However, I often find myself in or near water in the summer and the last thing I want to do is shell out $700 for a new phone. The Dri CAT was just the ticket when I went looking for protection for my iPhone as I was getting ready to leave on a whitewater rafting trip down Cataract Canyon in Southern Utah. Notorious for big rapids, Cataract Canyon also provides some of the most gorgeous sandy beaches to be found in a land-locked state. It was the perfect trip to test out the new case for my iPhone with plenty of water and sand to put it to a true test.
The Dri CAT is available with a lanyard for hanging around your neck or with a small carabiner. Both are attached to the case via a plastic buckle making it easy to secure in one place while being able to access it quickly without repositioning it completely. A silicone shield allows a fully functioning touch screen so you can still shoot photos, videos, talk on the phone or listen to music; up to 18 feet under water. A very exact fit to ensure proper sealing does not allow you to keep an additional case on your phone, but the Dri CAT itself offers ample protection. While many other waterproof cases retain the sleek appearance of the iPhone by remaining black in color, the Dri CAT is offered in several bright colors to help you locate it if misplaced.
After five days on the Colorado River my iPhone returned unscathed, never subject to the water or sand that I constantly left the case exposed to during the trip. Being a little bulky, you probably wouldn't want to carry it around as your sole case, but for adventurous trips it is great protection.
Genius Feature: Water/dust/sand proof. Bright color for easy locating. Fully functional while in case.
Not so Genius Feature: Silicone face attracts dirt, yet easy to clean. Silicone face could be torn if handled too roughly.
