Ahnu Sugarpine Air Mesh Hiker Review

Ahnu Sugarpine Air MeshTake a hike! Isn’t this an expression we used to use when people talked to each other face to face? Today we’d rather tell people where we’d like them to go by posting a heinous comment online and signing off anonymously. With the context of the world we’re living in if someone told me to take a hike I’d probably interpret it as generous permission, lace up my shoes and gladly get the hell out of there.

The Ahnu Sugarpine Airmesh hiker falls somewhere in between a heavy duty hiking boot and a trail runner. It sits right in the middle. I like that because it allows me to wear the shoe on and off the trail. It’s lighter than a hiking boot but the sole is much sturdier and less flexible than say a runner would be.

The Sugarpine offers a mesh upper to keep your foot cool and airy, then balances it out with more protection by way of waterproof leather overlays at the toe and heel. The toe actually has the leather overlay plus a rubber toe cap. Doubling the defense right where you need it.

I’ve taken these to the trails. At first I was skeptical when it said mesh upper because I thought perhaps the mesh would allow dirt in, which is the number one enemy for a hikers foot. I actually tested it in white socks so I could report back to you with accuracy. My white socks remained white. There you have it. I hope you’ll sleep better tonight.

I love what Ahnu is doing as far as the neutral positioning of the insole goes. This shoe has great arch support and it’s stiff enough to maintain your balance as you conquer the trails this summer.

I can’t leave this review without mentioning the cute and vibrant colors Ahnu has going for them. You’ll have to scroll through all of them before making your selection and it will be a tough choice.

I’m going to go ahead and agree with the blue ribbon Fitness pinned to this shoe. Best sneaker of 2014.

Now from me to you, “Go take a hike!”
