Moving more towards park skis, what size should I get?

Hi Genius! :) I have a question about ski sizing. I've been skiing all mnt for a few years and would consider myself an advanced level. I am currently moving more towards park and pipe. So I am thinking of getting a pair of twin tips (K2 PE or Dynastar's Notin' but trouble). What size skis should I get? I am: 6' 0'' 185 lb male ski level: 3+ on the scale 0-5 mostly ski at: southern California resorts and Tahoe at times Looking forward to hear from you! Thanks, Alex

Hey Alex, thanks for checking out the site.  Sorry it took a couple of days to get back to you, we had the whole Genius crew up at City of Rocks scaling some rock.  Check out the blog in a couple of days, it was awesome!

Anyway, on to your question.  Both the PE and Nothin' but trouble would be good choices.  One thing you're going to want to keep in mind, however, is how well you want the ski to ski in the park and how well you want it to ski out of the park.  The PE was replaced this season with the Extreme.  It's probably one of the most versatile skis on the market.  It's 118mm at the tip and 85mm under foot which makes it great from groomers to pow.  Depending on where you mount it, it also does really well in the park.

If you're looking to spend a lot of time in the park you might want to think about a symmetric ski, meaning that the tip and tail are the same width.  When mounted at a centered stance they do amazingly well in the park, and they ski switch like a dream.  The downside is skiing them out of the park.  The centered stance makes them not as good everywhere else.  A good example of them would be the Anthem from Line.

Here's some links to both the Extreme and the Anthem so you can check them both out:

Line Anthem (click here)

As for the size of ski, based on your height, weight, and ability I'd say you would want to go with the 179cm in each of those two models.  That way they'll do well in the park and out of it.

I hope that helps.  THanks for the question and for checking out the site.  Let us know if you have any other questions.  Don't forget to tell your friends about GearGenius.com and check us out on facebook.
